After dashing off a quick thank you to the alert Bottom Brigader, BM and the Countess leapt into the Countess' Mercedes and sped off in the direction of 14th St.
Sure enough, near the corner with S St was a giant billboard advertising holidays to Tahiti. Comparing the angle of the billboard in the photo, BM was pretty sure that Mayor Fiddley was being held on the third storey of number 1722, just above the comics store.
"I'm going in, Countess," said BM in a determined voice. "You stay here and call the Police." And with that he rushed over to the street entrance of the building.
Creeping up the stairs on tippy-toes, BM arrived at the top floor without drawing attention to himself. In front of him was a heavy door with a big brass handle. BM carefully tried the handle, but the door was locked. "I'll just have to make my entrance Bottom Man-style!" So saying, BM walked to the other side of the corridor from the locked door, turned his back on the door and launched himself, rear-first at the door. As BM's indestructible posterior connected, there was a deafening sound of splintering timber and the door flew open.
In a flash, BM was on his feet facing the occupants of the room. BM immediately saw two men standing either side of the trussed-up figure of the mayor. One of them drew a gun and fired, but, before he could shoot, BM had turned his back and the bullets bounced harmlessly off his invulnerable rear. He then reversed at lightning speed, bowling over the two kidnappers and finished up sitting on top of his two hapless prisoners, who were knocked out cold. "Surrender to my awesome power," said BM, somewhat unnecessarily.
"Not so fast," said a menacing voice from behind him. BM whirled round in time to see a tough-looking hombre with a crew-cut and a scar over his right eye, holding a gun to the Mayor's head. "Don't make a move, or the Mayor gets it," threatened the man.
"Oh dear, I really have made a mess of things, haven't I" muttered Bottom Man to himself.
